Young Ambassador Program

The Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers kicked off with the Young Ambassador Program Awards Night 2010 which was hosted at the Empire Theatre on Monday the 13th September 2010. Kim Cahill and Shelly Barclay along with a volunteer committee of dedicated individuals organized for the entrants to participate in thousands of dollars worth of workshops and character building programs. The entrants were taught various skills from event management, networking and professional development to public speaking, personal presentation, and social dining.
The overall winner for the Carnival of Flowers Young Ambassador Program 2010 went to Lauren Gray who was sponsored by Downlands College. Nicole Whiting, sponsored by FK Gardner, ended up as the 1st runner up.
Lauren Gray, sponsored by the Downlands College won the 2010 Fund Raising Award by raising over $10,000. Together, the Young Ambassadors raised a total of $30,000. David Granfield, sponsored by Star Garden Town Cafe and Chipironi Mountain Coffee, walked away with the Entrepreneur Award while Kate Harley sponsored by Ambrosiussen Accountants & Advisors and Lauren Gray sponsored by Downlands College shared the Congenial Award Lauren Blakeley sponsored by Horizon Wealth Invest took out the Encouragement Award.
Their efforts were donated to the Kath Dickson Family Centre and the Toowoomba Hospice. Janine Karetai, CEO of the Kath Dickson Family Centre gave an acceptance speech detailing how the monies will go to purchasing equipment for an interactive touch room. This will assist children who were born with mental disabilities and have difficulty learning.
